Paintball Rules need to change if the sport expects to reach new heights

The longest break of the 2023 Major League of Paintball season has concluded, and the Windy City Major is just a short day away, with the season title race in the balance across all divisions of the National XBall League. After Tampa Bay Damage was able to end the Dynasty streak of dominance last event, the pro division standings have shuffled, and San Diego is in its first real danger of losing their top spot all year.

The Major League of Paintball is officially at the halfway point of the season, and the NXL is preparing for its third event of the year hosted in Royersford, just outside of Philadelphia. The Mid-Atlantic Major is one of the most pivotal events of the year for professional teams, marking the point of no return in the race for the season title.

The 2022 NXL Paintball season has come to a close, and it may have been the best year of paintball in the NXL’s history. Hopeful players descended on Florida in the midst of Hurricane Nicole, with dreams of winning the biggest prize in the sport, a World Cup victory. With a collective six figure prize purse on the line, and the highest team count ever, the pressure was on.

New to the World Cup of Paintball this season is the introduction of an all-women's professional paintball division, being called the Women’s National Xball League or the WNXL for short. Paintball has always been a sport of inclusion where everyone has an equal and fair chance to play. However, the introduction of a women’s only league will hopefully create a larger demographic of professional female players in a sport that has been mostly seen men as the majority gender.

World Cup; two words that carry a heavy weight in the world of competitive paintball. Since 1989, the Paintball World Cup has been the premiere professional paintball tournament that every player dreams of winning. Under the NXL it has become one of the largest single outdoor sports tournaments in history; nearly 500 competitive teams and 5000 players all competing for a coveted World Cup title.

Throughout the near decade of the NXL Pro Division, there has never been a race for the title that has been this close. Four teams are in contention for taking home the most coveted award in all of paintball, the National Xball League Season Title, and with it, the right to claim the throne as the best paintball team in the world.
